Filters are an essential tool in both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, providing the graphic artist with an assortment of styles and effects that can enhance any end-product. In fact, there are so many filters that it can be intimidating to the artist because of such a wide-variety of possibility. The focus of this exercise is to assist the graphic artist in developing a filter quick-pick swatch, a handy resource usable by the artist during crucial moments where their skill-base and judgment synchronize.

Objective:

After completing this lesson, the student will be able to:
" Use tools to design tools (Standard #8)
" Apply the use of design tools and newly design tools (Standard #11)

Steps:

  1. Using the image of the Smiley Clock, that you created with Illustrator and Photoshop, you will create a filter gallery.
  2. Using Adobe Photoshop, use the transform command "Scale" and resize the photo so that you can fit multiple photos on a page.
  3. Be sure to apply appropriate labels to the photos, to help illustrate the filter effect.
  4. Complete this for each filter set.
  5. When you have completed this assignment, you will have a different filter-set sheet for each category listed below.
    1. Artistic
    2. Blur
    3. Brush Strokes
    4. Distort
    5. Noise
    6. Pixelate
    7. Render
    8. Sharpen
    9. Sketch
    10. Stylize
    11. Texture
