This is a problem solving activity that requires the student to re-visit basic Illustrator pen-tool skills, using an already completed image as a guide for the deconstructive purpose of reconstructive assembly.

THIS IS A PROBLEM SOLVING EXERCISE

1. Download the file called "Hats.tif" by right clicking the yellow link and choosing "Save Target As"
2. Create a new Illustrator document by going to "File" and then "New" (select Letter size)
3. Place the Hats file into a new Illustrator document.
4. While holding down the "Shift" key, stretch the image out so that it fills the page from left to right sides. You won't be able to fill it from top-to-bottom, because it's a horizontal image
5. Lock the layer that the placed "Hats" file is on.
6. Create a new layer to re-illustrate the hats on.
7. Re-create the image using Adobe Illustrator.
   1. Use the pen tool to retrace the hats
   2. Use the eye dropper tool to sample colors and create fills
   3. Use squares, circles, and other native shapes when desired
8. Save your work as an Adobe Illustrator (.AI) file
9. Save your finished work (when you've completed all four hats), as a .PDF file in a folder titled "Hats"
